Kalmrigaya
Kal Mrigaya is a musical play by Tagore which deals with the events behind the Ramayana, which set the stage for what happens subsequently. It turns upon how King Dasaratha accidently kills the only son of a blind hermit, Andhaka. This piece is most suitable for fresh interpretation as Tagore had incorporated British songs into the original such as The banks and braes and The British Grenadiers. Kal Mrigaya features three professional dancers, each with a distinctive style: Ash Mukherjee (Bharatanatyam), Cid Shaha (Kathak) and Ni Madé Pujawati (Balinese). A version of Kal Mrigaya has been designed for school workshops and is available on DVD. The premiere of the dance version was in November 2009 at Rich Mix.
